1977 Porsche Carrera Targa 3.0
The Porsche 911 3.0 l Carrera has a very special place in the history of the 911. It brings together elements of two legendary Porsche 911s. It represents the latest incarnation of the “Carrera” name, originally introduced to the 911 series as the classic 2.7-liter Carrera RS in late 1972, while it also uses the die-cast aluminum crankcase from the newly introduced Porsche 930 Turbo!
These rare, European-market-only models were produced over a short two-year period! It was only sold in 1976 and 1977 and only 3687 cars were built, of which 2564 were Coupes and only 1123 produced in Targa format. Total production for 3.0 Targas in 1977 included 365 LHD and 281 RHD cars.
The engine was essentially the same as the 930 Turbo engine, minus the turbocharger. It produced 200 hp and performance figures were almost identical to that of the 2.7 Carrera RS. The extra torque of the 3.0 L engine ensured that accelerating from 40-160 km/h in top gear was more than 3 second faster than the famous 2.7 RS!
This specific car is a numbers match 1977 model and has done only 166 448kms from new. It does not have a known service history and a pre-purchase inspection carried out by us revealed that the car does need some mechanical attention. The car is finished in Guards Red. It is mostly original and in fair condition!
These cars do not come up for sale often, and at the asking price this car has tremendous investment potential!
