1972 Ford Fairmont GT
The Ford Fairmont GT was a South African-assembled version of the high-performance Australian Ford Falcon GT. Complete knocked down kits were shipped from Geelong in Australia and finished in Port Elizabeth, South Africa from 1969 to 1972. The Fairmont was available with either the 250 cubic-inch straight 6-cylinder engine or a 351 cubic-inch Cleveland V-8. The latter was branded as the Fairmont GT and was nicknamed the “White Rhino” in the South African classic car scene.
This specific car is a 1972 Fairmont GT. This car is an older restoration but still in a magnificent condition. The interior is original and near perfect. The engine bay is dressed beautifully with lots of chrome bits, as to expected in a car like this. The dark blue paintwork is finished off with the traditional Fairmont GT striping kit in black and complimented by period correct chrome wheels. The mighty 351 Cleveland V8 is paired with a 4-speed Toploader manual transmission. The car produces just over 300 hp and could accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in 6,5 seconds, with a top speed of well over 200 km/h!
An iconic, high performance 4-door saloon from the seventies, born in Australia and bred in South Africa!
