1959 Mercedes Benz 220 S W180
The W180 Mercedes Benz cars were produced between 1954 and 1959 and included in the model line-up a 6-cylinder saloon, coupe and a cabriolet. The W180 series was one in a range of Mercedes models that received the nickname “Ponton”, derived from pontoon-shaped exterior styling.
The normal 220 was succeeded in 1956 by a modified and more powerful 220S. This car was fitted with a more powerful version of the in-line 6-cylinder engine and was later fitted with a second carburettor as well, raising output to 78 kW. The 4-speed column shift manual gearbox was retained. There were minimal external changes with the most obvious difference the addition of a chrome accent strip running along the fenders and doors.
This specific car is a 1959 W180 220 S. The car was restored to a very nice level a few years ago. The car is beautiful in Polizeweiss with a burgundy interior and luxury wood finishes on the dashboard and doors. It has 95 670 miles indicated and drives like a dream!
