In 1968, Mercedes-Benz introduced the W115 model to its line-up. W115 was an internal designation to describe the front engine, rear drive, 5-passanger sedans with 4 or 5-cylinder engines. Production of the W115 ended in 1976 and was replaced by the W123. The W114 was essentially the same car as the W115 – the only difference being a six-cylinder engine.

The W115 was the first post-war Mercedes Benz to receive a completely new suspension design. This new design favoured ball joints up front and semi-trailing arms at the rear as apposed to double wishbone/kingpins up front and low pivot swing arms at the rear.

The W115 was known to be a very tough and hardy car. A W115 240 D sits in the Mercedes-Benz Museum with an incredible mileage of 4.6 million kms on it. It was donated by a Greek taxi driver in 2004.

This specific car is a 1976 240 D with 44 200 km indicated on its odometer. It is finished in beautiful Pastel Blue with a tan leather interior. The 2400cc in line 4-cylinder diesel engine has an output of 48 kw and 137 nm of torque. Whilst you may not be going anywhere in a hurry, you will certainly go quite far thanks to 65l diesel tank and fuel consumption of 9.5l per 100 km – a huge improvement over the 240 D’s petrol alternatives at the time.
